Rain Barrels are a simple,
efficient, low-cost method for homeowners to
collect and recycle water. Large scale use of
rain water collected in rain barrels can have a
dramatic positive impact on water quality and
localized flooding in the Fox River and its
tributaries.
Rain barrels are simply large containers that
capture rainwater at the end of your downspout,
which you can then use to water indoor and
outdoor plants, wash your car and further reduce
your water bill while also reducing polluted
runoff from getting to our rivers and streams.
There are several places to purchase rain
barrels locally, including the Internet. Local
soil and water conservation districts sell rain
barrels, as well as
The Conservation Foundation.
While a few rain barrels won’t have much of an
impact on the Fox River, if we can work to get
THOUSANDS of rain barrels in use, we will begin
to see a measurable impact on water quality,
local flooding and better protecting our future
water supplies. And, you’ll notice savings in
your water bill. |
